GRADUATE STUDENT GOVERNMENT ASSOCIATION

of the Graduate School - Newark

What is the GSGA?

The Graduate Student Government Association (GSGA) acts as the governing body of the Graduate School - Newark. We represent all graduate students who are members of School 26.

Any graduate student enrolled in degree-granting program in the Graduate School of Newark may participate in the GSGA. All graduate  students are welcome to attend GSGA meetings, where they are encouraged to suggest programs, events, or projects that they believe  would benefit graduate student life, whether on campus or in the community.

Over the past few years, the GSGA has played an integral role in promoting graduate student-directed programming and activities, both on c ampus and in the community.

Annually, the GSGA:

·        distributes discretionary funds to graduate departments and student activity groups

·        awards excellence awards to outstanding graduate students

·        hosts a campus-wide blood drive

·        organizes a large reception for graduates’ families and friends after our spring commencement ceremony

In past years, the GSGA has funded an exciting range of events for graduate students, including:

·        departmental conferences

·        minisymposiums

·        guest lecturers

·        achievement awards

·        community service projects

·        socials & networking events

·    the interdisciplinary student-run Journal of Global Change and Governance (http://www.jgcg.org)

 ·       a Collaborative Student Research Award for innovative, partnered research relating to the field of psychology
